Annual trip to the lake
We followed the sun again this year to our beloved lake Roosevelt. Only this time we “camped” in the nearby motel, while our friends piled into their tents:) We haven’t stayed in that motel in 9 years. The town of Grand Coulee is in slow decay now. It’s a sad reality.
This long winter also produced quite a bit of glacial water so the lake was icy-cold. Swimming was not for the faint of heart (aka Andrew;))

Потянулись мы за солнцем на наше излюбленное озеро Рузвельт. Только в этот раз палатку нам заменила уютная комната гостиницы:) В ней мы останавливались лет 9 назад. За это время посёлок Грэнд Кули почти вымер. Забитые досками окна пустых заведений, заростающие высокой травой боковые улицы бросались в глаза. Такова, увы, участь маленьких американских поселений.
Солнце, пляж, друзья были прекрасны, а вот с водой не повезло. Вода в озере проточная, течения идут с гор, а зима в этом году закончилась поздно, и весь лёд стаял в озеро. Так что купаться было не для слабых духом:)
Turn it up to 11
Andrew and I have been married for 11 [amazing] years today June 17th 2011 and that was celebrated at Maximilien French restaurant in Seattle.

Viva Las Vegas!
This is the year that marks the big three-o. Three decades Zlata managed to spend on this planet and it still spins! This called for an epic, EPIC party. And what is the better place for such a party if not Las Vegas? Especially when two of my besties were on board for some fun times.
Surprisingly enough Andrew and I have never visited Las Vegas until now. I’ve always considered it to be a fake town and there were certain real ones to see first: New York, San Francisco, Chicago… As a matter of fact Las Vegas IS fake, but it is still a good place for a celebration. It’s like a party store: everything looks shiny and glittery but it’s made of cheap plastic not blood diamonds.
Only ~2.5 hrs on the plane and out of the Seattle’s rain we enter sunny, dry desert. 90 degree weather is much welcomed if only for a few days. We were staying on “The Strip” – the hotel strip where Las Vegas happens. Hotels are big. Tall and wide. Each has its theme: Paris, New York, Italy but the unifying feature for all of them is the inevitable maze of a casino. On our first day we got lost on our way to the elevator and were wandering among blinking slot machines for the good 15 minutes.
Las Vegas is well-watered for the city in a desert. There are fountains, waterfalls and ponds everywhere you look. There are also streams of tourists in any direction. For some reason or another I thought there are going to be mostly young party people but the tourist majority were hefty midwesterners with giant drinks in souvenir glasses.
What do people do in Las Vegas besides gambling? Well, it is the city made for entertainment. There are shows to see (purchase your tickets at Half-Price tickets located in several places on the Strip) and some shows are free like fountains at Bellagio and erupting “vulcano” at Mirage; there are hotels to explore, buffets to try (caution: enormous food quantity!) and if you’re brave enough to attempt to get into the club-waiting in line for hours is normal-then dancing would be an option too. Be prepared to inhale a lot of second-hand smoke as this city allows for smoking indoors. We also went to see Cirque du Soleil “Beatles” show (not that great) and the Blue Man Group (highly recommended!)

Как-то не верится, что вот взяло и брякнуло 30. Мир не остановился, а 30 уже тут. Это событие заслуживало особого внимания и праздника, что вдохновило нас слетать наконец-то в Лас Вегас. Захватив с собой друзей Сашу, Лену и её парня Джона мы прибыли в сверкающий и тёплый Вегас.
Лас Вегас это в основном череда гостиниц, высоких и широких и каждая гостиница это свой мини-мир. Внутри вереницы ресторанов, театры и даже зоопарки встречаются (я настоящих животных имею в виду, не туристов:)). Каждая гостиница имеет свою тематику: тут тебе и Эйфелева башня и Статуя Свободы и даже сказочный замок. Но каждая гостиница имеет сходство: казино на первом этаже. Казино огромное и запутанное. В первый день мы даже заплутали по дороге к лифту и бродили между мигающих игровых автоматов добрых 15 минут.
Вообще в Америке всё огромное, а в Вегасе раза в два больше. Даже туристы, хе-хе. Ночной Вегас более интересен, так как начинается ночная жизнь, всё начинает блестеть неоновыми вывесками; гостиницы начинают показ бесплатных вечерних шоу (например в нашей взрывался искуственный вулкан, а в соседней креативно брызгали фонтаны с подсветкой и музыкой).
Из запоминающегося: празднование дня рождения в красивейшом Итальянском ресторане с видом на пруд. Нам подавали свежепривезённую Средиземноморскую рыбу и сухое вино. Танцы в клубе где стало так тесно, что мы с Сашуней танцевали на подиуме:) Тропический бассейн с водопадами в нашей гостинице.

Ten Years “Off the Boat”
Today marks our tenth year since we landed in the United States of America.

Somehow it got to be 2011, one morning when we woke up. It just came with the rain that rarely stops these days. It drives us crazy so we crash parties:
Also, with the new year I got hired full-time at my new job, doing mobile app UI design. That’s actually great news. I like it and there are paid sick days, like the one happened to be on Valentine’s Day. Blegh. Well at least there were cupcakes to cheer me up. Sweet hearts!

Так неожиданно наступил 2011 год. Просыпаешься как-то и вот он пришёл с дождями, которые, кажется, никогда не перестанут. Это сводит нас с ума и мы заявляемся на чьи-то вечеринки (см. фото 1)
Ещё с нового года я теперь на постоянной должности дизайнера мобильных программ, что есть замечательно: работа хорошая и о новой можно пока не думать. Теперь за простудные больничные хотя бы платят, которые приходиться брать в самые неподходящие моменты: например в День Валентина. Ну ничего, пирожные скрасили бытие

I’ll just summarize everything by posting my Yelp’s review:
“Merry, merry, it’s definitely time to be merry if you’re staying at the Hotel 1000, located in the heart of downtown Seattle. My husband and I, although local (we live just a few blocks from the hotel), decided to treat ourselves this Christmas and got a “B&B with a Twist” package that included cocktails and breakfast. Ricardo, who’s been taking care of us, went above and beyond his duties by upgrading us to the nicest room in the building and including a bottle of champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries in our room. The room itself was breathtaking, especially the giant tub with the view of the city. The attentive staff, glorious food (the All-American breakfast delivered to your room) and amazing amenities will make your stay unforgettable.
One negative thing is that time flies too fast when you’re there:)”

Рождественскую ночь мы решили провести в замечательной гостинице “1000″, буквально в нескольких кварталах от нас. Резервацию мы сделали заранее и в стоимость входили коктейли и завтрак. Сотрудник гостиницы делавший нам резервацию просто превзошёл все наши ожидания: он дал нам самый лучший номер на 10 этаже с панорамными видами на город и залив (и с видом из ванны тоже!), в номере нас ожидала бутылка шампанского и клубника в шоколаде.
Звездой программы была огромная ванная, с водой льющейся с потолка и с видом на вечерний город. Вообщем было замечательно, но мало:) Как и всего хорошего:)

Holidays in the city
It’s the time of the year again! Time for festive Christmas trees and lights and Christmas jingles in the shops. But hurry up and enjoy it while you can: as soon as Christmas is over, lights go dark and trees go to the dump and the city remains in the state of grey until spring.
So we are enjoying and celebrating, first at the fantastic restaurant Urbane that served us our 3-course Thanksgiving meal; then a Microsoft’s holiday party at EMP with delicious food, fully-stoked bar, and entertainment: music, theatre and dancing. Later this month we’ll be attending a few Christmas events at our church and then have a stay at the fabulous Hotel 1000 in downtown Seattle for Christmas Eve. We’ll report how that goes.

И вот опять пришла та прекрасная пора года, когда больше месяца царит праздничное настроение, улицы города сверкают лампочками и наряженными ёлками и в магазинах непрестанно крутят Рождественнские мелодии. Наслаждаться надо успеть, ведь чуть ли не на следующий день после Рождества (26 декабря) лампочки быстренько сворачивают, ёлочки вывозят на мусорник и город становится сырым и мрачным до весны.
Вот мы и наслаждаемся. Начали с праздничного ужина в ресторане по поводу Дня Благодарения (25 ноября), а продолжили замечательнейшей вечеринкой от Микрософта 3 декабря. Не пожалел, босс, потратился:) Закуски, напитки, танцы, театральные постановки… Вечер удался на славу. Впереди ещё пара-тройка рождественских увеселений в нашей церкви, а на само Рождество мы будем в городе, отдыхать в шикарной гостинице, с большой ванной и панорамным видом из окна.

Andrew’s birthday
Andrew turned 34 today. This fact was celebrated at Sip, a hip new restaurant downtown Seattle. Bad news-lots of people cancelled, it is a Tuesday night after all. But two brave ones joined us for drinks:) Now my happy, drunky hubby is sleeping while I’m sharing this poem I wrote for his birthday:
I wish you good aim
and steam packs for free.
And all sorts of goodies
in Fallout 3.
I wish you great wisdom
In every decision
And when there’s chocolate
and no supervision.
I wish you much happiness
As big as the sea!

Отметили сегодня день рождения моего супруга-34 года. Посидели с парой друзей в новом модном ресторане Сип. К сожалению из 10 человек пришли только двое, но впрочем всё равно было мило.
